چکیده

The effect of weight reduction on serum lipids in relation to visceral fat accumulation was studied in 78 healthy obese subjects (40 premenopausal women and 38 men) aged 27-51 years and with an initial body mass index of 30.7 +/- 2.2 kg/m2 (mean +/- SD). The subjects received a 4.2 MJ/day energy-deficit diet for 13 weeks. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to assess abdominal fat areas before and after weight loss. Weight reductions of 12.6 +/- 3.2 kg in men and 11.7 +/- 3.8 kg in women resulted in larger reductions in the fasting serum levels of total cholesterol (p < 0.05), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (p = 0.06), and triglycerides (p < 0.01) and a larger increase in the high density lipoprotein cholesterol/low density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (p = 0.05) in men compared with women. Men also lost more visceral fat (p < 0.0001), whereas the reductions in the total and subcutaneous abdominal fat depots were similar. In women, visceral fat loss was significantly related with an increase of the high density lipoprotein cholesterol level, independent of the degree of total fat loss. In men, however, no significant correlations were observed between changes in visceral fat and any of the serum lipids. Comparisons of average changes in obese men and women suggest that visceral fat loss is associated with an improvement of the serum lipid profile. However, correlation analysis does not support a critical role of visceral fat in determining serum lipid concentrations on an individual level, except for an improvement of the high density lipoprotein cholesterol level with visceral fat loss in obese women.

Changes in aerobic capacity and visceral fat but not myocyte lipid levels predict increased insulin action after exercise in overweight and obese men.

OBJECTIVE To examine the effect of moderate intensity physical activity on the interactions between central abdominal adiposity, myocyte lipid content, and insulin action in overweight and obese, sedentary men. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Myocyte lipid (biochemical triglyceride and long-chain acyl CoA [LCAC] from vastus lateralis biopsy and soleus and tibialis anterior intramyocellular lipid ...

The effects of Acute endurance exercise on Visfatin and insulin levels in obese women

Abtract Introduction: Visfatin is a newly discovered adipokine which is highly expressed in visceral adipose tissue that may induces changes in insulin resistance. The Aim of this study was to examine the Effect of Endurance Exercise on Visfatin and Insulin Levels In Obese Women. Method: present research is a semi-empirical study that 10 obese female volunteers (age 35.6±7.12 y, body mass in...

Effects of an energy-restrictive diet with or without exercise on abdominal fat, intermuscular fat, and metabolic risk factors in obese women.

OBJECTIVE The primary objective was to examine whether the combination of diet and aerobic exercise (DA) or diet and resistance exercise (DR) is associated with greater improvements in metabolic risk factors by comparison to diet only (DO) in obese women. A second objective considered whether reductions in metabolic risk factors are related to concurrent changes in abdominal and/or intermuscula...

Serum Triglyceride Levels Independently Contribute to the Estimation of Visceral Fat Amount Among Nondiabetic Obese Adults

Determining the visceral fat amount is important in the risk stratification for the prevention of type 2 diabetes and obesity-related disorders. The area-based measurement of visceral fat area (VFA) via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an accurate but expensive and time-consuming method for estimating visceral fat amount. The aim of our study was to identify a practical predictive parameter ...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Determined Visceral Fat Reduction Associates with Enhanced IL-10 Plasma Levels in Calorie Restricted Obese Subjects

BACKGROUND Obesity is characterized by a low grade chronic inflammation state. Indeed circulating pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-6, are elevated in obese subjects, while anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-10, appear to be reduced. Cytokines profile improves after weight loss, but how visceral or subcutaneous fat loss respectively affect pro- or anti-inflammatory cytokines...
